Tobacco 21 Idaho Art Contest

Tobacco 21 Idaho Art Contest

We invite high school and college students throughout Idaho to participate in the Tobacco 21 Idaho Art Contest. Idaho’s teens and young adults are tired of being the targets of Big Tobacco. The Tobacco 21 Idaho Coalition is pushing for legislation to raise the tobacco sale age from 18 to 21, and with your voice and support, your generation could be the first to eliminate smoking. This contest is open to all Idaho youth between the ages of 14 to 21.

Participants in the contest are eligible to win a $30 VISA gift card. One winner will be selected for each of the following categories: 1) Best use of repurposed tobacco item(s), 2) Most creative and 3) Strongest use of Tobacco 21 Idaho messaging. Each winner will be awarded one $30 VISA gift card.

Art Project Inspiration

Art is diverse and we encourage you to approach this contest in any creative way that sparks your imagination. This contest is open to all non-digital, visual art projects that highlight why Tobacco 21 is right for Idaho.

If you could use a little inspiration, consider these ideas:

  • Repurpose Challenge: Use cigarette butts, an old ashtray or some other item associated with tobacco and use it in a creative, repurposed way.
  • 21 Reasons: Create a visual art piece (through paint, photography, graphics, text, mixed materials, etc.) and incorporate the number 21 or use 21 items to emphasize raising the age of tobacco sales in Idaho to 21.
  • Create a Collage: Using tobacco ads in magazines or printed from online sources, reimagine the message in a collage that communicates why Idaho should raise the age.

Considerations for Your Art Project

  • Your project should in some way express the dangers of tobacco products, including cigarettes, electronic cigarettes, and other smokeless tobacco products, and support raising the tobacco sale age in Idaho from 18 to 21.
  • Please keep in mind that your project should be no smaller than 8-1/2” x 11”.
  • Winning projects may be requested for use during events at the Idaho State Capitol. Projects that can be easily transported and displayed are encouraged.
  • Foul language, sexual content and other inappropriate content will not be accepted.

Closing Date

Projects must be submitted by Wednesday, January 24, 2018, to be eligible to win and to provide transport time for the Tobacco 21 Idaho Awareness Week happening January 29 – February 2, 2018.

Additional Rules

By submitting a project, each entrant represents that the artwork is an original work, and the entrant is the sole owner of all right to the artwork.
